Safety Tools

Current beta safety features are mostly deterministic map, terrain, weather, and avalanche-forecast tools. Advanced assessment is unavailable during beta. Any future assessment feature will be presented as supporting information, not a decision maker.

What We Collect

When you create an account (optional), we store:

• Your name and email (from Google or Apple Sign-In)
• A unique friend code for connecting with other users

When you use logged-in or shared features, our server may also store:

• Routes, runs, waypoints, ski lines, and shared custom pins that you choose to save or share
• Condition pins, which expire automatically after 48 hours
• Friend, group, message, and location-sharing records needed to operate those features
• Your optional user experience profile
• Beta feedback and expert feedback that you submit. To help us reproduce and fix the issue, a feedback submission also stores limited support diagnostics: the page URL you were on, your browser user agent, viewport size, online/offline state, how long the feedback form was open, and the number of routes you have saved. Expert feedback on an assessment also includes the map location and slope context for that assessment. For any feedback we additionally store your IP address, and your account is associated with the submission if you are signed in.

Your device may store locally:

• Private local routes, waypoints, and pins
• Map tiles for offline use
• App preferences and settings

What We Do NOT Collect

• No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs
• No advertising identifiers
• No cross-site tracking or behavioral advertising profiles
• No background telemetry: the support diagnostics listed above are stored only when you submit feedback, not collected as you use the app
• No sale of personal data

Location Data

GPS location is used only for:

• Showing your position on the map
• Recording ski tracks, if you choose to save them
• Ephemeral location sharing with friends or groups, if enabled

When location sharing is enabled, the server stores only your latest shared position and returns it only to the audience you selected. The app treats shared locations as fresh for only a short query window, currently about 5 minutes. We do not build a movement history from these updates.

Map and Provider Requests

Map viewing may request tiles, weather, avalanche, terrain, and background map data from skimo.pro and from third-party map or data providers listed in the app. Those provider requests can include normal web request metadata such as IP address, referrer, requested tile coordinates, and approximate map area. Offline maps reduce repeated network requests for supported skimo.pro-owned layers, but third-party rendered provider tiles are not persisted by the service worker.

Data Storage

Local-only app data is stored in your browser or installed app storage. Server-side account, sharing, route, run, pin, profile, feedback, and location-sharing data is stored in the skimo.pro backend database. We do not sell personal data.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This removes your server-stored user record, latest shared location, direct messages, group memberships, friend requests, photos, ski lines, runs, routes, waypoints, shared pins, condition pins, user profile, and any feedback you submitted while signed in to this account. Feedback submitted while signed out is not linked to an account, so it is not removed by account deletion; to have such feedback erased, contact us via the beta feedback form. Group messages you sent and groups you created are retained for the other members but are de-identified (shown as "Deleted user"). Local data such as cached map tiles and browser/app storage can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing site data.
